WASHINGTON, D.C.— Last night, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 8281, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. In response, the National Partnership for New Americans issued the following statement:
Said Nicole Melaku, NPNA executive director, “The SAVE Act is a blatant attempt to erode trust and participation in our democratic process and perpetuate baseless claims of voter fraud. This bill threatens the rights and safety of millions of Americans – especially new Americans. This bill not only undermines the fundamental rights of millions, but also deepens divisions in our society, fostering fear and discrimination instead of safety and trust. We are dismayed and disappointed by a bill that so starkly contrasts American values of fairness and inclusivity, disenfranchising eligible voters and further weakening the very fabric of our democracy.”
