Declaration of Dreams
It is the right and responsibility of the People to challenge and transform systems that deny dignity and justice.
We declare that all people are created equal in dignity and worth, and are entitled to unalienable rights, including liberty, safety, and the pursuit of happiness and a meaningful life. These rights do not depend on birthplace or legal status, but belong to all who live in and contribute to the communities of this nation. When the government fails to secure these rights, it is the right and responsibility of the People to challenge and transform systems that deny dignity and justice.
We reclaim the American Dream for immigrant communities harmed by immigration laws and a criminal legal system built on systemic racism and nativist ideology, enforced through violence, surveillance, detention, and disenfranchisement. We honor and draw inspiration from the Civil Rights movement and the fight led by Black Americans for dignity, justice, self-determination, and freedom for all, a legacy that calls on us to confront the harms faced by communities today. The enduring harm inflicted on immigrants, their families, and entire communities makes clear that policies that block lawful pathways to migration and naturalization, suppress free speech, and separate families from vulnerable children do not create safety but instead undermine it. Safety cannot exist where justice is denied, when the government obstructs the fair administration of due process, when indiscriminate and indefinite detention, mass deportations, and forced disappearances are used to criminalize marginalized communities and erode the foundation of our democracy.
We call for systemic change that responds to present and future realities, one that establishes access to pathways to citizenship for undocumented and long-term immigrant communities, grounded in humanitarian principles, and addressing the root causes of migration, from poverty and persecution to climate change. We dream of true representation in the United States of America and the full recognition of legal rights for all people on this land, regardless of background, nationality, race, gender, or faith.
We commit to building a nation that invests in immigrant integration and community empowerment through language access, legal aid, education, healthcare, housing, food security, and climate resilience. We recognize that access to public benefits is a gateway to equity and shared opportunity, and we honor the cultural, social, and economic contributions immigrants make to the prosperity and vitality of this country.
We affirm the rights of immigrants and New Americans, including the right to vote for newly naturalized citizens, and the full inclusion of Black and Brown communities, Muslim, Jewish, Indigenous, and other marginalized peoples in the social, economic, and civic life of the nation.
As we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of this nation, we pledge our solidarity and collective commitment to this Declaration of Dreams. In support of this Declaration, we affirm our firm reliance on constitutional principles, civil liberties, and due process, and on the enduring commitment to resist oppression that shaped the nation’s founding. We reclaim our right to the American Dream and redefine what it means to be American, whether citizen or not, for communities rooted in this land. In reclaiming our shared American Dream, we commit ourselves to building a multiracial, multiethnic, vibrant, and inclusive democracy for all. We envision a United States where public safety is not built on the dehumanization of communities, but on a society that proactively confronts racist, xenophobic, and anti-Black systems through solidarity across movements. We commit to restoring the soul of this nation by advancing equity, justice, and human rights, grounded in the hard-earned lessons of our struggles for freedom, equality, and the liberation of all marginalized people.
