WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA) denounces the latest Continuing Resolution funding package, which cleared the House of Representatives and now heads to the Senate—a spending bill that offers no guardrails against cruelty and more violence across our communities at the hand of immigration enforcement.

After the murders of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by federal immigration enforcement agents, Congress rightfully zeroed out funding for ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). But following the ICE murders of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastián Guerrero—and despite 23 shootings by agents involved in Trump’s deportation campaign and dozens of deaths in ICE detention—Congress has done nothing to address the billions in taxpayer dollars flowing to rogue agencies.

To date, despite being given multiple opportunities to investigate the actions of DHS—actions resulting in more than 50 lives lost since Trump returned to office, disappearances of our loved ones, and widespread Constitutional violations—Congress has yet to wield meaningful oversight authority or call for accountability.

Instead of accountability or meaningful guardrails, DHS is leveraging legislative loopholes to bankroll its enforcement efforts that unleash unchecked violence in our neighborhoods. The National Partnership for New Americans, alongside our multi-ethnic, multiracial network of over 76 of the nation’s largest immigrant and refugee rights organizations, calls on every member of the Senate to vote against yet another dangerous misalignment of America’s priorities.”
