WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on President Trump’s executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship. With the results of the ruling, the National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA) soundly decries the court’s ruling as an attack on the 14th Amendment, the core of what it means to be an American, and our democratic systems of checks and balances. In response to the ruling, the NPNA issued the following statement.

Said Nicole Melaku, NPNA executive director, “Today’s ruling represents a dangerous erosion of our democracy, a direct attack on the 14th Amendment’s 150-year legacy of equality, and a single man’s desire to rewrite the Constitution to bend to his political will. All Americans’ rights are now up for debate. This decision betrays our nation’s fundamental belief that everyone, regardless of citizenship or immigration status, should be able to thrive and contribute without fear.

“The consequences will be catastrophic: a patchwork citizenship system where a child’s rights depend on their birth state, the creation of a permanent underclass of Americans, and unbearable strain on families, communities, and local governments. Rather than addressing real challenges, this administration and its allies have chosen policies that manufacture crisis after crisis, destabilizing our institutions and weaponizing our legal system against vulnerable communities.

“We will not accept this assault on our values. Our fight to protect constitutional rights and preserve an inclusive America continues.”

NPNA condena fallo de la Corte Suprema que atenta contra la democracia y la ciudadanía por nacimiento

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Hoy, la Corte Suprema de los Estados Unidos se pronunció sobre la orden ejecutiva del presidente Trump que intentaba poner fin al derecho de ciudadanía por nacimiento.
