NATIONAL PARTNERSHIP FOR NEW AMERICANS
Founded in 2008, the National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA) is a national multiethnic,
multiracial network of 66 of the country’s leading immigrant and refugee rights organizations who
together advocate for policies and programs to successfully integrate New Americans. NPNA exists to 1)
strengthen immigrant and refugee voices in our nation by building the policy and program capacities of
our member organizations; 2) pursue policy campaigns with our members at the local, state, and federal
level; and, 3) deepen strategic partnership to advance immigrant and refugee inclusion and equity in the
United States.

OVERVIEW
NPNA seeks an experienced leader to support our federal policy priorities in the role of Policy Manager.
The Policy Manager will engage congressional staff, NPNA members, and strategic partners in
advancing policies that promote inclusion, equity, and justice for New Americans. Based in the
Washington DC area, the Policy Manager will monitor the progress of our legislative priorities and
engage key policy makers and their staff on our legislative priorities to advance our mission.
Key Duties: Policy, Government Affairs, Relationship Management
● Serve as key liaison with Congressional offices and the administration to advance
National Office of New American’s federal policy initiatives and administrative
advocacy priorities;
● Engage in strategic dialogue with NPNA member and partner organizations,
policy leads, policy makers and their staff to provide reliable, timely analysis and
recommendations on policy proposals or administrative actions;
● Monitor and analyze legislation and regulations related to NPNA’s policy platform
and provide regular legislative updates to NPNA’s membership;
● Provide policy guidance and response to issues facing NPNA members and
create feedback opportunities to engage members with policy makers and
stakeholders;
● Identify opportunities to cultivate relationships with members of Congress,
executive branch staff, and key federal agencies;
● Participate in coalitions and working groups related to naturalization, immigration,
economic inclusion, and related issues;
● Draft policy memos, one pagers, bill summaries, and other briefing and
messaging materials;
● Support NPNA’s communications team in responding to policy developments, including
rapid response communications;

● Represent NPNA in coalition spaces;
● Provide policy-related content support to NPNA’s annual gatherings, including
NONA’s Member Summit and the biennialNational Immigrant Inclusion
Conference;
● Serve as a policy expert for NPNA including for media requests, speaking
engagements, and coalition work;
● Field media requests and coordinate with the communications team and senior
NPNA staff as appropriate;
● Supervise additional policy staff and contractors.

QUALIFICATIONS
● Minimum 3-4 years of professional experience in public policy issues, including
experience working with legislative staffers on the hill;
● Experience managing relationships with relevant policy partners (government policy
shops, academic institutions, etc);
● Ability to draft, analyze, and interpret legislative and regulatory language, and summarize
such materials into briefs and NPNA member updates, and communicate policy
developments to a wide variety of audiences;
● Knowledge of legislative and administrative processes including the appropriations
process;
● A broad understanding of federal and state policies that impact immigration and refugee
communities;
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
● Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with other staff and in collaboration with
partner organizations;
● Experience as a public spokesperson and advocate, including experience fielding media
requests;
● Applicants who are directly impacted by the issues and with diverse backgrounds are
encouraged to apply;
● Language proficiency beyond English a plus;
● A solid intersectional understanding of racial,economic and immigrant justice issues in the
U.S.;
● Multicultural competence Comfort and familiarity working with individuals of diverse
backgrounds and to work across differences at all levels
● Must be within commuting distance to Washington, D.C., and the greater DMV region.

COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is $80,000-$90,000 commensurate with experience.
NPNA offers a generous benefit package that includes health insurance, dental insurance, and a SIMPLE IRA
retirement plan with an employer match. Employees receive 14 paid holidays, 12 sick days, two weeks of paid time off,
and an additional week of paid time off
