Advocates Applaud Compassionate Immigration Provisions in House COVID-19 Relief Bill

Proposal Expands Lifeline Benefits to Working Families Regardless of Citizenship Status

WASHINGTON, D.C.Nicole Melaku, the Executive Director of the National Partnership for New Americans issued the following statement in response to passage of the COVID-19 relief bill by the U.S. House of Representatives:

“Today we celebrate that the U.S. House of Representatives has listened to the needs of immigrant and refugee working families when passing the latest response to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this global pandemic that has claimed so many lives and adversely impacted millions of others, we applaud the House for taking action to include millions excluded by the provisions in the previous relief package.

Green card holders, DACA recipients, TPS-holders, and undocumented families won’t be excluded from relief provided to other working families and essential workers. We cannot allow the Trump administration to continue to callously disregard the impact of the economic fallout on immigrant and refugee families mid-pandemic. We urge the U.S Senate to take action to  ensure that all of our country’s essential workers on the front lines of the pandemic, including immigrant families, get the relief they deserve.”
