DACA Renewals
Following the September 5th announcement ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program and issuing the October 5th deadline for DACA Renewal Applications, NPNA, our members, and national partners quickly sprung into action and declared a “Red Alert” in our field and communications work.
Within days of the announcement, NPNA supported our members and partners on the ground through the creation of public education materials and capacity-building tools to support organizations in driving their own on-the-ground DACA workshops. NPNA led a webinar with 387 people in attendance, sharing how different organizations, pro-bono attorneys, municipal governments and grassroots leaders can support DACA recipients to apply for renewal before the deadline. Since the announcement, NPNA members have organized over 200 DACA Renewals workshops across the country.
That same week, NPNA sent a letter to the administration calling for an extension of the October 5th deadline, calling the deadline “arbitrary, unworkable and cruel.” The following week, NPNA joined with United We Dream, America’s Voice, the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), Make the Road New York, and National Immigration Law Center (NILC) in developing a sign on letter inviting organizations and individuals to join the effort to push the deadline. Last week, NPNA joined with CEO’s of the American Business Immigration Coalition and Illinois Business Immigration Coalition in a third sign on letter calling for an extension again.
