NPNA Response to the House Passage of Coronavirus Stimulus Legislation

The National Partnership for New American (NPNA) released a statement today attributed to Nancy Flores Deputy Director of NPNA:

“At a time, when our nation is reeling from overwhelmed hospitals and a shuttered service industry, we must remember the critical role that immigrants and refugees play in society and in our economy. The truth is that not everyone will be helped by this bill and we must not ignore the contributions of immigrants who are among the frontline workers keeping essential services running. While the CARES Act does expand critical unemployment assistance and funding for medical care, these measures are not accessible to all. Both the Republican and Democratic leaders failed many of the hardworking immigrants in our nation and we challenge them to address these shortcomings in future legislation.

“NPNA does applaud the immigrant inclusive bipartisan problem-solving in the Small Business/ Nonprofit Relief loan grant package led by Republican Senator Rubio and Democratic Congressman Nydia Velasquez. NPNA is deeply committed to supporting our member organizations and the communities we collectively serve during the implementation phase of this bill.”
